It\u2019s been a long wait since Amazon greenlit Jack Ryan season 3<\/a> back in 2019, with lots of news dropping in the meantime \u2013 including that the show is coming to an end<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, fans don\u2019t need to worry too much. Not only will the CIA action thriller, which is based on characters from the Tom Clancy books<\/a>, receive a fourth season<\/a> before it finishes, but according to Deadline<\/a>, a spin-off series could be in the works.<\/p>\n

While the current series stars John Krasinski (The Office US, A Quiet Place), the spin-off with reportedly see Michael Pe\u00f1a (Ant-Man and The Wasp) take the franchise\u2019s reins.<\/p>\n

The first two seasons of Jack Ryan were hugely popular with fans, but the COVID-19 pandemic threw a spanner in the works, with showrunner Carlton Cuse confirming the Amazon Prime Video<\/a> show\u2019s multiple filming locations made it difficult to film over the past few years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was logistically challenging to work on all eight episodes that we\u2019re shooting on three continents with four different directors and often two \u2013 and sometimes three \u2013 crews shooting at once,\u201d showrunner Carlton Cuse told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to actually go to the places. We couldn\u2019t cheat the audience,\u201d executive producer Graham Roland told TV Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Still, with the third season now in the can, and the fourth said to be filming currently, fans can expect news of a release date to be revealed sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

Jack Ryan seasons 1 and 2 were released on Amazon Prime Video in consecutive years (2018 and 2019), but that hasn\u2019t happened with season 3 due to COVID-19 and related lockdown and travel restrictions.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s still currently still no news on when we can expect Jack Ryan season three to drop, although with Deadline reporting that filming concluded last year<\/a>, we expect news of a release date to drop in the coming months. Watch this space, as we will keep this page updated.<\/p>

Jack Ryan season 3 plot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In season 3,\u00a0 Jack is said to be on the run and in a race against time. He is wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy and suddenly finds himself a fugitive out in the cold. Now, wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction that he has uncovered, Jack is forced underground, crisscrossing Europe, trying to stay alive and prevent a massive global conflict.<\/p>\n

Season 2 saw Jack almost drowned in a bathtub, so we imagine season three will see the agent continuing to get himself into dangerous situations \u2013 followed, of course, by narrow escapes.<\/p>\n

However, don\u2019t expect Jack Ryan to become (major Tom Clancy books spoiler!) the US President anytime soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the Clancy books, he goes from being an analyst in \u2018Hunt for Red October\u2019 to becoming the president of the United States,\u201d showrunner Carlton Cuse previously told IndieWire<\/a>. \u201cAnd it felt like the sweet spot was in that moment where he goes from being an analyst to being an operative in the field for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the part that seemed the most traumatic and compelling. In our version, it\u2019s kind of a prequel to everything that\u2019s gone on. He\u2019s only worked in the CIA for four years, which is less than in the books.\u201d<\/p>\n

John Krasinski (The Office, Some Good News<\/a>, A Quiet Place Parts 1 and 2) is confirmed to return as the Jack, alongside The Wire\u2019s Wendell Pierce as James Greer, Jack\u2019s boss. Michael Kelly is also set to return as Mike November.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Deadline<\/a> first reported that Abbie Cornish, who played Jack\u2019s girlfriend Cathy Mueller in season one, but didn\u2019t appear in season two, is back for the new episodes.<\/p>\n

New additions to the cast<\/a> include Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright, the Chief of Station, as well as James Cosmo, Peter Guinness, Nina Hoss and Alexej Manvelov.<\/p>\n

Michael Pe\u00f1a will also join the cast, reportedly arriving at the end of season 3<\/a> before taking on a lead role in season 4. His character is not yet confirmed, Deadline are reporting that he will play Domingo \u201cDing\u201d Chavez, who could go on to lead his own spin-off.<\/p>\n
