T\u2019Nia Miller, Olly Alexander and Lydia West were all considered to be in contention, largely because of their roles in previous projects from Russell T Davies, Doctor Who\u2019s returning showrunner<\/a>.<\/p>\n One actor whose name was similarly discussed is Omari Douglas, best known for playing Roscoe Babatunde in Davies\u2019 Channel 4 series It\u2019s A Sin<\/a>.<\/p>\n RadioTimes.com<\/a> caught up with Douglas on the red carpet at the BAFTA TV Awards<\/a>, and asked him about the speculation that he was going to be playing the Doctor, to which he\u00a0responded: \u201cTo be honest, when people were saying that it was going to be me, it was news to me.\u201d<\/p>\n However, when asked if he would be interested in a different role on the show, he said: \u201cI\u2019d love to play a weird scary alien. Yeah. I\u2019d love to, like, get in a full prosthetic and be something a bit creepy. Let\u2019s put it out there.\u201d<\/p>\n Douglas previously addressed the rumours<\/a> that he was going to play the next Doctor before Gatwa was cast, saying \u201cit would be an honour\u201d to take on the role.<\/p>\n On the BAFTA red carpet he raved about Gatwa\u2019s casting, calling him \u201cincredibly talented\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe came from similar theatre communities and so I\u2019m so chuffed that Jodie\u2019s going to be passing the baton on to him,\u201d Douglas continued.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s more than ready to be doing something like this. And he\u2019s gonna pave the way for so many more brilliant people.
