The story revolves around pals and former lovers Frances and Bobbi and married couple Melissa and Nick, whose paths cross one unassuming day, resulting in a very complicated and messy entanglement<\/a>.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about joining the hotly-anticipated project, Melissa star Jemima Kirke said: \u201cI\u2019m never going to choose a project based on how successful I think it\u2019s going to be because I don\u2019t have a crystal ball. And I have no control over that.<\/p>\n \u201cYou just want to make it as good as you can. But yeah, you\u2019re up against some comparisons, I\u2019m sure.\u201d<\/p>\n Sasha Lane, who plays Bobbi, added: \u201cThere\u2019s too much other s**t to worry about, like the actual performance and filming it.\u201d<\/p>\n Kirke went on to discuss what it was that prompted her to say yes to the project: \u201cThe fact that this story was told through so many mundane moments and domestic moments, everyday interactions and happenings [really appealed to me].<\/p>\n \u201cAnd when you have a story like that, it has to come through the performance. With<\/span>out the performance, it is just someone pouring a cup of coffee, or someone studying \u2013 these things that aren\u2019t remarkable with<\/span>out you making them remarkable. And that was the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n Lane added: \u201cIt\u2019s from someone\u2019s inner dialogue and you get to twist that because everything else is usually, \u2018This is my character and this is what I do.\u2019 But from this, you just get to play with <\/span>how someone\u2019s thinking or seeing you, and you get to maybe be different than that, or show a different side of that because now we\u2019re no longer in her head.’\u201d<\/p> For Alison Oliver, who portrays Frances, it was the series\u2019 exploration of love \u2013 specifically that you can love more than one person at the same time, and that different relationships fulfil you in different ways \u2013 that initially drew her in.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/b>I think it\u2019s really interesting, and that it is totally possible,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think what\u2019s so great is she [Rooney] isn\u2019t trying to drive that idea down anyone\u2019s throat. It\u2019s just present with<\/span> these people, and you see through their experience with<\/span> themselves or with<\/span> each other that that is the case.<\/p>\n \u201cNick loves Frances and Melissa. And Frances loves Bobbi and Nick. And it\u2019s what you do with<\/span> that where the complication comes in.\u201d<\/p>\n Conversations with Friends airs on Sunday 15th May, appearing on BBC One, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer for UK viewers.
