In and of itself, it\u2019s a great bit of news \u2013 she\u2019s been a hit in the Netflix series, and fans are excited to see her new role \u2013 but it\u2019s the name of her new Who character that really has fans\u2019 tongues wagging. How can there be another <\/em>Rose?<\/p>\n To quote Davies himself on Instagram: \u201cRose! Another Rose? But how? Who? Why? Where? What, what, what?!\u201d<\/p> To many fans, a character called Rose in Doctor Who means only one thing \u2013 Billie Piper\u2019s fan-favourite companion Rose Tyler, who starred in the show for two seasons from 2005-2006 (followed by a few guest appearances) and is credited with some of the revived show\u2019s success alongside co-stars Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.<\/p>\n With Tennant now returning, fans might have expected Rose to return \u2013 but not this Rose. So what gives? Why has she been given this name? What does it all mean<\/em>?<\/p>\n Well, fans already have a few theories. A few people have already floated the idea that Doctor Who\u2019s 60th anniversary (which Tennant, Catherine Tate and Finney have been confirmed to be shooting for) will involve parallel worlds in some way, tipping the Whoniverse into its own Multiverse of Madness.<\/p>\n Leaked photos of David Tennant on set show him in a subtly different version of his classic Doctor Who costume (with a blue coat, for one change), and some have theorised that we could be seeing a parallel universe story where the Doctor is a little different, Donna never had her memories wiped (which is why she\u2019s still adventuring in the TARDIS) and Rose is played by a completely different actor.<\/p>\n It\u2019s possible right? But confusing, and a bit muddled. And a bit of a cop-out. Which is why we think something else entirely is happening.<\/p>\n What if Finney\u2019s character is just a person called Rose? People are, you know.
