There have been a lot<\/em> of exciting Doctor Who<\/a> announcements in recent weeks, but for long-term fans of the show nothing can top the revelation that David Tennant is set to return to the series alongside Catherine Tate<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n While it\u2019s not yet clear exactly how <\/em>Tennant will be reprising the role of the Tenth Doctor \u2013 or for how long \u2013 his return has already led to much speculation amongst Whovians as we wait to find out more details, and there\u2019s bound to be all sorts of fan theories between now and the 60th anniversary in 2023.<\/p>\n But for now, it\u2019s a good chance to reflect on Tennant\u2019s original stint as the Doctor \u2013 which began after he replaced Christopher Eccleston when the latter opted to leave the TARDIS after just one season in the role.<\/p>\n Over three series and several specials, Tennant\u2019s Tenth Doctor had plenty of great scenes, exciting adventures and touching moments \u2013 these are just a few of our favourites.<\/p> The Tenth Doctor had a lot of great action scenes, but few had the oomph of this mounted rescue through a time portal<\/a> in The Girl in the Fireplace\u2013 even if it did lead to a sad ending for the Doctor and Reinette (Sophia Myles).<\/p>\n The episode is loosely based on Audrey Niffenegger\u2019s The Time Traveler\u2019s Wife \u2013 which writer Steven Moffat has now adapted into a new HBO series \u2013 and became one of the most acclaimed of Tennant\u2019s tenure in the TARDIS.<\/p>\n10.
