Martin Freeman\u2019s BBC drama The Responder<\/a> won praise earlier this year for its complex and unflinching look at modern policing, with RadioTimes.com<\/a> saying that while \u201cthe concept might seem familiar, the material is approached from an angle that feels fresh, raw and utterly compelling\u201d.<\/p>\n Now Freeman has explained what he thinks sets the series apart from other police dramas, saying it\u2019s \u201cthe lack of clich\u00e9\u201d which makes the show uniquely compelling<\/p>\n Speaking at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival<\/strong>, as part of a Q&A which also featured writer Tony Schumacher and executive producer Laurence Bowen, and was hosted by Jane Garvey, Freeman explained: \u201cIt\u2019s not procedural, it\u2019s not a kind of case of the week sort of thing.<\/p>\n \u201cIt didn\u2019t feel clich\u00e9d to me, it didn\u2019t feel like a lot of guys standing around saying police TV writing sort of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n #TVFest<\/a> is in full swing after last night\u2019s The Responder panel with Martin Freeman, writer Tony Schumacher and Executive Producer Laurence Bowen, as well as a reflection on the legacy of Live Aid with Sir Bob Geldof.
