<\/p>
We\u2019re fast approaching the end of His Dark Materials<\/a>, with the third and final season expected to air this Autumn \u2013 and it sounds as though it will be quite the climax.<\/p>\n VFX supervisor on the show Russell Dodgson and Mrs Coulter star Ruth Wilson both spoke exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival<\/strong> last week, where they highlighted the scale of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n Dodgson said: \u201cIf you\u2019ve read the book, it\u2019s sort of one of those books where there\u2019s lots of many different things in it where someone jokingly says to you before you film it, good luck with the ___. So for example, there\u2019s so many creatures and so many characters that we have to visualise. And I think just getting your head around the concept of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Wilson agreed, calling the third season \u201cdefinitely sort of the most ambitious, I think of the three.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou have Mulefas and you\u2019ve got so many different worlds to explore,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd you\u2019ve got to complete all these storylines. So you\u2019ve got to kind of complete the stories for Lyra, for Mrs Coulter, for Asriel. It\u2019s a huge, actually undertaking and you\u2019re in the midst of doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n Dodgson said that while the team has always talked about the series as a \u201cgrounded fantasy\u201d, it \u201cdefinitely takes a leap when you get into the third season\u201d.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Wilson called the third season \u201cquite philosophical\u201d, explaining that \u201cit\u2019s Philip\u2019s sort of attempt, it\u2019s him discussing what the whole book is about really, and human consciousness. It\u2019s huge themes and big ideas. So I think a lot of that comes in the third season. That\u2019s quite ambitious for all of us to deal with and to sort of put out there.\u201d<\/p> Will Parry actor Amir Wilson previously told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that the new season is \u201ca lot darker, a lot sadder\u201d<\/a> and \u201cdefinitely more emotional\u201d.<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Huw Fullerton<\/em>.<\/p>\n His Dark Materials returns to BBC One and HBO this autumn.
