John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) tried to stop his bandmates from licensing the band\u2019s music for the series, and\u00a0called the series \u201cthe most disrespectful sh*t I\u2019ve ever had to endure\u201d<\/a>. A legal battle then saw Paul Cook and Steve Jones win out<\/a>, which allowed their songs to feature in the series. It\u2019s understood that Lydon hasn\u2019t yet seen the show<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Anson Boon, who plays Lydon in the series, said: \u201cI know [Lydon\u2019s] gonna watch it, he\u2019s said that in the press. In one of his press releases he said he\u2019s gonna watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n Jacob Slater, who plays Cook in the series, then chipped in that \u201cHe\u2019s gonna love it! Even if he doesn\u2019t tell us, he\u2019ll love it.\u201d<\/p>\n During the filming, the cast spent time with Cook, Jones, Glen Matlock and more of the real life figures portrayed in the show, and Boon told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that \u201cthe one thing I would say that\u2019s similar amongst all the real people we met is that they consistently hold John\u2019s contributions to music as a whole in the highest regard, they all speak of him really well.\u201d<\/p>\n The series is based on Steve Jones\u2019 2017 memoir\u00a0Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol<\/a>, and is therefore told from his perspective, rather than frontman Lydon\u2019s.<\/p>\n Danny Boyle recently addressed this when speaking with The Guardian<\/a>, saying that \u201cyou can\u2019t make a series about [Lydon] because he\u2019s unmanageable. Everyone knows that. To get this book from Steve is like a side door in.\u201d<\/p> He added: \u201cIt allows you to look at the whole group. But you have to acknowledge there\u2019s a genius in there and it\u2019s Rotten. He\u2019s the person that changed everything, a key cultural figure in our landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n Boyle also acknowledged the feud, saying:\u00a0\u201cI love Lydon for what he does and I don\u2019t want him to like it \u2013 I want him to attack it.
