<\/p>
We may still only be halfway through the year but the cast of Call the Midwife<\/a> have already been getting in the festive spirit as they\u2019ve been filming their Christmas special<\/a>.<\/p>\n The plot of the new episode remains tightly under wraps, but we\u2019ve now got our first hints about what to expect as Helen George\u2019s character Trixie returns to Nonnatus House.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival<\/strong>, George revealed that she knows little about Trixie\u2019s upcoming storylines before she shoots them, but that her role in this year\u2019s Christmas special is \u201clovely\u201d.<\/p>\n George revealed: \u201cWe get the scripts a couple of weeks before we film them, so honestly I don\u2019t really know. Christmas is lovely for Trixie, there\u2019s some lovely stuff going on. Heidi [Thomas, the series\u2019s creator] just writes so well for the character.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd there\u2019s always a surprise \u2013 every series I go, \u2018Oh my God, you\u2019re kidding me, that\u2019s going to happen to Trixie?\u2019 So I think that\u2019s what keeps the character kind of stretched.\u201d<\/p>\n George also explained that she likes how her character is \u201cconstantly underestimated\u201d, saying that \u201cpeople always underestimate Trixie and it\u2019s lovely being able to sort of push her to extremities all the time\u201d.<\/p> At the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival the show\u2019s creator Heidi Thomas also revealed<\/a> that \u201csomething interesting and rather wonderful will happen for Trixie this series, so she has big news coming up\u201d.<\/p>\n However, Thomas stopped short of revealing just what this news is and whether it has anything to do with her relationship with Matthew, so it seems that fans will just have to wait and find out when the series airs next year, likely soon after this year\u2019s Christmas special.<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Huw Fullerton<\/em>.<\/p>\n Call the Midwife will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
