For a show which has already included some truly graphic and shocking sequences, the opening scene of The Boys<\/a> season 3 somehow manages to top them all.<\/p>\n Showrunner Eric Kripke has been teasing for a while that the scene is \u201cjaw-droppingly insane\u201d<\/a>, and now that the episode has been released, it didn\u2019t disappoint. Speaking exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Kripke has revealed that the initial idea for the opening came from an Ant-Man internet meme<\/a> which did the rounds following Avengers: Infinity War<\/a>.<\/p>\n He explained:\u00a0\u201cBelieve it or not, it evolved fairly organically. We usually do all the madness last. So, where it started, if you were to look at our writer\u2019s board\u2026 there was a long time that the space was \u2018TBD superhero sequence\u2019. We just knew that Frenchie and Kimiko had to fight a superhero and we were [too] busy figuring out the rest of the story to figure out which one.<\/p>\n \u201cThen we came back to it, finally, and it begins with, \u2018Okay, what are the big ones that we haven\u2019t done yet?\u2019 And someone pitched Ant-Man. At the time there was that meme going around of, \u2018Why didn\u2019t Ant-Man just crawl up Thanos\u2019 butt and explode him? It could have been a much shorter movie\u2019. And so, we as writers said, \u2018wouldn\u2019t it be funny if we had this character crawl up a character\u2019s butt and blow them up and give them what Marvel couldn\u2019t give them?’\u201d<\/p>\n However, Kripke noted that the show\u2019s shocking nature means sometimes the writers find themselves struggling to come up with new scenarios, as one of them pointed out that they had already blown someone up \u201cfrom up their butt\u201d in season one.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a really remarkable show when you can pitch an ass explosion and someone says, \u2018but we did that\u2019,\u201d Kripke continued. \u201cAnd so we couldn\u2019t do an ass explosion and then there\u2019s only so many orifices a person has, so that\u2019s how we got to it.\u201d<\/p> Kripke also called shooting the sequence \u201cone of the great pleasures of my life\u201d, explaining that \u201cthe penis is practical. So that is an 11 foot high, 20 foot long penis that is built at great expense. Like, Amazon spent a lot of money building that.
