The future of Line of Duty<\/a> remains unknown following the culmination of a six-season story arc which revealed the identity of the Fourth Man in last year\u2019s tense season 6 finale.<\/p>\n

However, it sounds like Steve Arnott star Martin Compston remains enthusiastic about the potential to reprise the role.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Times<\/strong> for this week\u2019s issue, he noted the existence of \u201cideas\u201d for more episodes.<\/p>\n

Asked if there\u2019s any chance Line of Duty could return, Compston replied: \u201cWe\u2019re so delighted that after all that time, people still want us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Echoing previous comments, he continued: \u201cIf Jed [Mercurio, the creator] thinks there\u2019s a story, we\u2019d all love to work together again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always ideas, but nothing concrete,\u201d the actor added, keeping anything he might know tightly under wraps.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no official word on whether the show\u2019s sixth season was its last, but RadioTimes.com<\/a> previously revealed that Line of Duty bosses want season 7<\/a> but aren\u2019t sure whether or not it will happen.<\/p>

Speaking to RadioTimes.com <\/strong>at the\u00a0Radio Times Covers Party\u00a0<\/strong>earlier this year, the Fourth Man himself, Nigel Boyle, explained: \u201cI was chatting to [executive producer] Simon Heath earlier and I was saying, \u2018Come on mate. [What\u2019s happening?]\u201d And he was like, \u2018We\u2019d kind of like to but we don\u2019t know if it\u2019s going to happen.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018What\u2019s the official line?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Well, there isn\u2019t one.’\u201d<\/p>\n

As for creator Mercurio, he hasn\u2019t committed to another season but he also hasn\u2019t ruled it out.<\/p>\n

In the run-up to season 6 last year, he told\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/a>\u00a0the prospect of a continuation was uncertain.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a situation where it\u2019s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series,\u201d he said. \u201cWe would hope there could be. But we\u2019re having to do our planning coming out of COVID, and a whole bunch of other things, around the idea that these things aren\u2019t guaranteed at all now.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of it depends on the key creatives \u2013 that\u2019s me and the main actors \u2013 finding new stories to tell within that universe,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
