It follows two Trinity College students, Frances and Bobbi, who become entangled with an older married couple, Melissa and Nick.<\/p>\n<p>Abrahamson discusses why the series and Normal People will always draw comparisons to each other \u2013 they\u2019re from the \u201cRooniverse\u201d \u2013 but why that doesn\u2019t faze the <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/conversations-with-friends-cast\/&quot;\">Conversations with Friends cast<\/a> and crew. Plus, he reveals why he cast three non-Irish actors in three of the four leading roles.<\/p> <p>Both Normal People and Conversations with Friends refuse to shy away from intimacy \u2013 and so Abrahamson unpicks the responsibility he feels when working with young actors (especially following the redistribution of explicit scenes on porn websites that occurred after Normal People was released) and how the sex scenes are reflective of a cultural change in Ireland.<\/p>\n<ul><li><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/alison-oliver-conversations-with-friends-big-rt-interview\/&quot;\">Alison Oliver on Conversations with Friends: \u201cNerves are good \u2013 that\u2019s an indicator that you care\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/conversations-with-friends-normal-people-exclusive-newsupdate\/&quot;\">Conversations with Friends stars address Normal People comparisons<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/conversations-with-friends-bbc-review\/&quot;\">Conversations with Friends review: Sally Rooney adaptation revels in the unspoken<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><h2><strong>Also in this week\u2019s Radio Times magazine:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul><li>Paapa Essiedu says despite being friends with Michaela Coel, he was surprised to be asked to audition as her best friend in I May Destroy You. He also discusses his sense of responsibility in playing a gay character and how the pace of change in Black representation on-screen isn\u2019t necessarily reflected behind the camera: \u201cWhat me and Lennie [James] were also trying to say is that that\u2019s the top layer of the cake. You\u2019ve got to think about what\u2019s happening behind the camera, upstairs in the board rooms, who\u2019s commissioning, all that. The rate of that change maybe doesn\u2019t quite mirror what\u2019s happening in front of the camera. How diverse the opportunities are that I\u2019m getting can sometimes give the [suggestion] that change is happening quicker than it actually is.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/sherwood-release-date\/&quot;\">Sherwood<\/a> star David Morrissey believes police undercover operations into legal organisations need to be looked into: \u201cWe\u2019ve seen undercover operations within criminal and terrorist organisations in dramas like <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/line-of-duty-season-7-release-date\/&quot;\">Line of Duty<\/a>. But the idea that there were undercover officers inside legal organisations eavesdropping on conversations, feeding back information and sometimes having relationships with people without telling them who they really were, is outrageous.
