Director Angus MacLane previously explained that the reasoning was because this version of Buzz Lightyear is a real space ranger, as opposed to the toy seen in the earlier films, and now Evans himself has revealed what makes the character different this time around.<\/p>
Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press ahead of the film\u2019s release today (17th June), Evans said that his version of Buzz required a \u201cslightly more nuanced interpretation\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Buzz that we all know is obviously a toy,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd as a toy, there are certain ways that they can move through the world without the weight that we may carry, you know.<\/p>\n \u201cA toy knows its purpose,\u201d he added. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to worry about disease or anything. The impacts of the choices that we make as people are a little bit more consequential, and it\u2019s fun to put Buzz against that backdrop.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite taking on the role, however, Evans said that delivering the character\u2019s well-known catchphrase \u201cTo Infinity and Beyond\u201d was like \u201cwearing someone else\u2019s clothes\u201d, and admitted that that line would always belong to Allen.<\/p>\n \u201cAs proud as I am to play this role and as honoured as I am to be a part of this universe now, that line belongs to someone else,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt almost kind of felt like I was wearing someone else\u2019s clothes or something, so you do your best to honour it and put your own spin on it, but let\u2019s be honest \u2013 that\u2019s Tim Allen\u2019s line!\u201d<\/p>\n Lightyear is currently showing in UK cinemas.
