First there was Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor<\/a>, followed by the returns of David Tennant and Catherine Tate<\/a>, then the casting of Yasmin Finney as a new character named Rose<\/a>, and most recently the announcement that Neil Patrick Harris<\/a> will play \u201cthe greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced\u201d.<\/p>\n Now, Davies has set the internet alight with another post on Instagram<\/a>, this time a simple picture of a badge, the design of which features a foe first introduced in Davies\u2019 first series of the show way back in 2005 \u2013 the Slitheen.<\/p>\n The pin badge was made by Sophie Iles, who later revealed on their own Instagram<\/a> page that the badge was given to Davies at a convention back in 2019. Davies\u2019 caption simply said, \u201cMerch!\u201d<\/p>\n The Slitheen were first introduced in Ninth Doctor two-parter Aliens of London\/World War Three, with later appearances coming in Boom Town and The End of Time, as well as multiple episodes of spin-off show The Sarah Jane Adventures<\/a>.<\/p>\n They were a criminal family of aliens from the planet Raxacoricofallapatorius, who disguised themselves in human skin-suits, using technology which gave them serious flatulence issues.<\/p>\n While there\u2019s a very good chance that Davies\u2019 Instagram post is completely unrelated to Davies\u2019 plans for the show upon his return, and the Slitheen won\u2019t be returning for the 60th anniversary<\/a>, that didn\u2019t stop fans\u2019 minds boggling at the prospect.<\/p>\n One fan commented on the post, asking \u201cDoes it mean they\u2019ll be back?\u201d while another asked if we would \u201cfinally get to see their home world?\u201d<\/p>\n Another simply posted \u201cBRING THEM BACK!\u201d while another called the alien family \u201ciconic\u201d.<\/p> Davies has previously promised that his new era of the show will be \u201coff the scale\u201d<\/a> while also teasing that he has some \u201cimmense plans\u201d<\/a> for the episodes. Could these plans include the Slitheen? As with all these hints, teases and speculation, only time will tell.<\/p>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on\u00a0BBC iPlayer<\/a>.
