BBC One drama Sherwood will return for a second season, with filming set to begin next year.<\/p>\n

The first run of the crime drama \u2013 which is inspired in part by real events \u2013 drew to a close tonight (28th June), but a follow-up has already been commissioned.<\/p>\n

Series creator\/writer James Graham will once again look to draw on the real history of the Nottinghamshire mining village in which he grew up.<\/p>\n

The new episodes will continue to explore the \u201cthe lives and legacy of those governed by Britain\u2019s industrial past with stories from communities of the \u2018red wall\u2019 towns, the controversial deployment of so-called \u2018spy-cops\u2019 and how seismic ripples from the past can come back to haunt the present\u201d, the BBC has promised.<\/p>

\u201cI\u2019ve been so deeply moved by the response to Sherwood<\/a>,\u201d said Graham. \u201cThese stories come from my home, and I want to specifically express gratitude to my community for whom I know these subjects can be difficult, but \u2013 I hope \u2013 important ones to explore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe East Midlands and former \u2018red wall\u2019 areas like it are never just one thing, politically or culturally, and it\u2019s been the honour of my life to give voice and character to a place I love. It\u2019s a county of great stories and legends, past and present, and I can\u2019t wait to show audiences more.<\/p>\n

Graham will write all six episodes of season 2, which will again be produced by House Productions. Further information and casting details will be be announced in the near future.<\/p>\n
