BBC One will air an animated adaptation of Charlie Mackesy\u2019s best-selling book The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse this Christmas.<\/p>\n

The adaptation will take the form of a short film, with Mackesy\u2019s original illustrations brought to life as full-colour hand-drawn animation.<\/p>\n

Exploring the unlikely friendship of \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse as they journey together in the boy\u2019s search for home, the short has also enlisted an all-star cast.<\/p>\n

Idris Elba (Luther<\/a>) will voice the fox, with Tom Hollander (The Ipcress File<\/a>) as the mole and Gabriel Byrne (ZeroZeroZero) as the horse \u2013 the trio will be joined by newcomer Jude Coward Nicoll as the boy.<\/p>

Other highlights from the BBC\u2019s schedule already confirmed for Christmas 2022 include an adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler\u2019s children\u2019s book The Smeds and The Smoos<\/a> starring Bridgerton<\/a>\u2018s Adjoa Andoh and Gavin and Stacey<\/a>\u2018s Rob Brydon and special festive episodes of Call the Midwife<\/a> and Death in Paradise<\/a>.<\/p>\n
