Reynolds made the comments during a Royal Television Society panel talk<\/a>, appearing alongside Outlander\u2019s intimacy coordinator Vanessa Coffey.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m fairly new to the business. So the only proper simulated sex scenes I\u2019ve done have been on Outlander,\u201d Reynolds explained.<\/p>\n \u201cEven from my experience, I think in my head before [filming] when I\u2019m reading the scripts, when I see a sex scene, my head goes, \u2018Fine, easy, great.\u2019 Like, \u2018That\u2019s an interesting scene. Oh, my character\u2019s doing this. This is fun.\u2019 And I didn\u2019t have any qualms about it whatsoever.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then you get on set, and it is the most exposing thing ever, even if it\u2019s just kissing, because maybe you\u2019ve never met this person that you\u2019re kissing before in your life.\u201d<\/p>\n Reynolds described how \u2013 before arriving on the Outlander set and speaking to Coffey \u2013 she hadn\u2019t realised she would be allowed to change her mind about certain sex scenes, adding there was a \u201cyucky-ness\u201d aspect to filming sex scenes that she \u201cdidn\u2019t even think there was going to be\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the most important thing \u2013 and this is something Vanessa told me \u2013 is that now you can change your mind, if you\u2019re not comfortable [with a sex scene]. In the past, you were literally not allowed to say, \u2018I\u2019m actually not comfortable with this anymore\u2019. You know, you have the option.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cI think that is such a huge thing, and something I faced because I was so sure that it wouldn\u2019t really bother me, and that I was open, I was confident. And it was the complete opposite, and Vanessa completely just opened my perspective on that and really took all the taboo and all the yucky-ness out of it that I didn\u2019t even think there was going to be.\u201d<\/p> Earlier in the conversation, which centred around the rise of intimacy co-ordinators in the industry, Reynolds stressed that if she hadn\u2019t met Coffey, she \u201cwouldn\u2019t have felt safe\u201d during sex scenes going forward in her career.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re fighting for income, in this job as an actress. But if it\u2019s your dream, it\u2019s been your dream since you were a child, it\u2019s very easy to fall into a trap of being a \u2018yes man\u2019. And I think if Vanessa wasn\u2019t introduced into my working life, I would have gone on working in, you know \u2013 I just, I wouldn\u2019t have felt safe,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Outlander is\u00a0available to watch on Starz US now<\/a> and to stream on StarzPlay<\/a> in the UK.
