Aidan Turner has revealed that filming one scene in upcoming ITV drama The Suspect was \u201cterrifying\u201d.<\/p>\n

The series opens with a rather dramatic sequence that sees Turner\u2019s character Joseph O\u2019Loughlin step onto the ledge of a tall building to save someone who\u2019s considering suicide.<\/p>\n

And although filming on the real building took place using stunt doubles, Turner himself had to confront his fear of heights by acting on a constructed set \u2013 which was still fairly high up.<\/p>

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press at a Q&A ahead of the show\u2019s launch, he described his genuine fear during the shoot and revealed how this actually made his job as an actor a little easier.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not good with heights,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd we\u2019re still quite high up, which is great when you do these things because you could just infiltrate your own real emotion.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying fear, or dialing that up\u2026 if there wasn\u2019t a height, if you\u2019re doing a green screen thing, for instance, I mean, they\u2019re really tricky, Because to try to evoke that emotion from yourself, it\u2019s harder, you tend to overcook it.<\/p>\n

And he added: \u201cThose shrieks or whatever I\u2019m doing in the scene are real. It was kind of scary, but it still felt very safe, which is great. I think it\u2019s a great introduction for the character too. And it\u2019s a great way to start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile director James Strong said that putting the scene together was \u201cquite complicated\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just take it apart and look at all the different elements and it is about constructing the jigsaw,\u201d he said. \u201cAll the different pieces of\u2026 where we can have Aidan for real, where\u2019s it got to be the stunt team, where\u2019s it got to be green screen and all those little elements, and what the VFX can give us, credibly, that you believe, and can kind of sell the sequence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did actually do as much of it as we could for real, so we were hanging people off that huge building in Paddington,\u201d he added. \u201cSo I think when you\u2019ve got that real base then it helps sell it. But it\u2019s a complicated sequence of all those different elements that come together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The psychological thriller series also stars Shaun Parkes and Anjli Mohindra and tells the story of a man (Turner) who appears to have the perfect life until everything suddenly begins to unravel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll it takes is a murder victim, a troubled young patient, and the <\/span>biggest lie of his life,\u201d teases the official synopsis. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCaught in an increasingly complex web of <\/span>deceit, Joe risks everything as he embarks on a journey that will <\/span>take him into the darkest recesses of the human mind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
