Carol Danvers has returned in the series finale of Ms Marvel on Disney Plus<\/a>, which sets the stage for her next adventure on the big screen.<\/p>\n The character has been used sparingly since her billion-dollar debut back in 2019, with only a supporting role in Avengers: Endgame and a scattering of post-credits appearances to her name.<\/p>\n However, Brie Larson\u2019s cosmic superhero will step back into the limelight next summer and she\u2019s bringing a couple of friends along for the ride in The Marvels.<\/p>\n Those up to date with Marvel\u2019s Disney Plus content will be excited to know that both Ms Marvel<\/a>\u2018s Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and WandaVision<\/a>\u2018s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) will be co-leads with Carol Danvers in the upcoming film.<\/p>\n That\u2019s why Larson makes a brief cameo in the Ms Marvel post-credits scene<\/a>, which is likely to leave viewers with more questions than answers.<\/p>\n The Marvels is one of several upcoming Marvel movies<\/a> expected to close out the divisive Phase Four, which some fans have criticised for lacking a clear direction.<\/p>\n Read on for everything we know about the project so far.<\/p> CONFIRMED:<\/strong> The Marvels is currently scheduled for release on Friday 28th July 2023<\/strong>, following several delays caused by pandemic-induced reshuffling.<\/p>\n That means we have a whole year to go before we find out what links Carol Danvers to Kamala Khan, but on the bright side, that gives marathon watchers plenty of time to binge the preceding Marvel<\/a><\/span> movie<\/a><\/span>s<\/a><\/span> in order<\/a>,<\/span> if you\u2019re that way inclined.<\/p>\n In May 2022, Empire<\/a> reported that principal photography on the film had wrapped, but reshoots are expected to take place in the month of August, as revealed by Samuel L Jackson during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n Brie Larson will take the lead in The Marvels, formerly known as Captain Marvel 2, where she plays fighter pilot turned immensely powerful cosmic being Carol Danvers.<\/p>\n Teyonah Parris reprises her WandaVision role of Monica Rambeau<\/a>, while Iman Vellani will return as Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, who recently debuted in her own Disney Plus adventure.<\/p>\n Following Vellani over to the big screen are Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur, who fans will remember as Kamala\u2019s older brother Aamir, mother Muneeba, and father Yusuf respectively.<\/p>\n Another familiar face is Samuel L Jackson, who will be making his 15th appearance in the MCU as former SHIELD director Nick Fury (counting television shows Agents of SHIELD, What If\u2026? and Secret Invasion<\/a>).<\/p>\n Joining the Marvel family is Fresh Meat star Zawe Ashton, who has been cast in an undisclosed villainous role, while South Korean superstar Park Seo-joon also has a top secret appearance.<\/p>\n Behind the camera, Nia DaCosta is taking the director\u2019s chair as her follow-up to last year\u2019s well-received Candyman<\/a> sequel.<\/p>\n Viewers will have plenty of homework to do before heading into The Marvels, as the film has links to three Disney Plus shows: WandaVision, Ms Marvel and the upcoming Secret Invasion.<\/p>\n For starters, it will have to address whatever force is connecting Kamala Khan to her personal hero Carol Danvers, who crashed into her New Jersey bedroom in a post-credits sting at the end of her solo series.<\/p>\n The blockbuster will also push forward the story of Monica Rambeau, who gained super powers from the Scarlet Witch in last year\u2019s WandaVision, although her exact capabilities are yet to be clearly defined.<\/p>\n Fans of Captain Marvel\u2019s first solo flick will remember that Carol was once best friends with Monica\u2019s mother, the late Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), but became distant after gaining her superhuman gifts.<\/p>\n As outlined in WandaVision, Monica feels strongly that she abandoned them, which is particularly tough to swallow following Maria\u2019s tragic death from a form of cancer \u2013 a loss that Carol may not even be aware of yet.<\/p>\n Finally, it has been speculated that the events of Secret Invasion will also play into The Marvels, due to the two projects having a shared star in Samuel L Jackson.<\/p>\n Additionally, the Secret Invasion storyline revolves around the shape-shifting Skrulls and Captain Marvel is the character most closely tied with that alien species so far.<\/p>\n Not yet, but we\u2019ll keep this page updated with new videos and images as they come.<\/p>\n The latest issue of Radio Times magazine is on sale now \u2013\u00a0subscribe now<\/a>\u00a0and get the next 12 issues for only \u00a31.
