Marvel Studios has announced it\u2019s in the process of creating a new Disney Plus<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>series after the comic book arc, Ironheart, following the teenage genius, Riri Williams, who develops a suit to rival Iron Man\u2019s and becomes a hero in her own right.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Dominique Thorne has been cast in the role after making her screen debut in Barry Jenkins\u2019s acclaimed 2018 drama If Beale Street Could Talk.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) will play\u00a0a mystery role opposite Riri.<\/p>\n Alongside Thorne and Ehrenreich,\u00a0Lyric Ross (This is Us) is set to play Natalie, Riri\u2019s best friend, while Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Hamilton) and\u00a0Manny Montana (Good Girls) have also been cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles.<\/p>\n Ironheart will join the ever-expanding list of Marvel Disney originals, which include Ms Marvel<\/a>, Secret Invasion and Loki<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Read on for everything we know so far about Ironheart.<\/p> There\u2019s no release date for Marvel\u2019s Ironheart just yet.<\/p>\n However, given how jam-packed the studio\u2019s schedule is for the next year, we wouldn\u2019t expect the series to premiere until 2023<\/strong>\u00a0at the earliest.<\/p>\n Sign up to Disney+ for \u00a35.99 a month or save 15% with the annual plan for <\/a>\u00a359.99<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The following cast members have been confirmed for Ironheart:<\/p>\n Dominique Thorne has been cast as Riri Williams in Marvel\u2019s Ironheart series on Disney Plus, having impressed with her screen debut in awards contender If Beale Street Could Talk.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Lyric Ross (This is Us) is set to play Natalie, Riri\u2019s best friend, while Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Hamilton) and\u00a0Manny Montana (Good Girls) have also been cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles.<\/p>\n Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) has joined the cast in a mystery role.<\/p>\n A few years ago, Ehrenreich, who played the younger incarnation of Harrison Ford\u2019s smuggler in 2018\u2019s Solo, was asked about\u00a0<\/span>a possible MCU debut by Digital Spy<\/a>.<\/p>\n He replied: \u201cTo me it\u2019s always, who\u2019s behind it, who\u2019s the director? Or in this case, the showrunner? And what sort of role?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cBecause some of these genre pieces, whether it\u2019s action, superhero stuff, or horror, or whatever, sometimes have tremendous depth. Is the person who\u2019s making it really in love with the thing that they\u2019re making?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cOr is it sort of a money thing? And some of these bigger things do feel like they really have this great vision behind them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cSo it\u2019s always like, it\u2019s hard to categorically know, I take it on a case by case basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Riri Williams is a relatively new creation, having made her full comic book debut less than five years ago in 2016\u2019s Invincible Iron Man #9.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, the character has become a major player in the short time since, getting involved in major crossover event Secret Empire and joining young adult superhero team The Champions, as well as leading her own solo title.<\/p>\n When she was first introduced, Riri was only 15 years old but had already established herself as an accomplished scientist with a full scholarship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n Her advanced intelligence leads her to design and build her own suit of armour similar to that which is worn by Tony Stark \u2013\u00a0and it isn\u2019t long before she gets the billionaire\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n He ultimately gives Riri his blessing to keep using the suit, making her a major new ally; of course, this origin will have to be tweaked in the Disney Plus series following Stark\u2019s death at the end of Avengers: Endgame.<\/p>\n Presumably, Marvel\u2019s Ironheart will be an origin story for Riri Williams first and foremost, but it\u2019s possible that the series could connect with another Iron Man spin-off headed to Disney Plus: Armour Wars.<\/p>\n That show will see Don Cheadle reprise his role as James Rhodes (aka War Machine), for a story that explores what happens when Tony Stark\u2019s technology falls into the wrong hands.<\/p>\n Riri Williams could easily fit into such a narrative, but there\u2019s no confirmation on whether Thorne or Cheadle will collaborate across the two projects.<\/p>\n Not yet, but there are plenty more upcoming Marvel shows<\/a> to look into while you\u2019re waiting.<\/p>\n Ironheart will be released on Disney Plus.
