<\/p>
The World Athletics Championships are set to sparkle as a number of the finest sports stars on the planet gather in Eugene, Oregon for the first day of events.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not a quiet start to proceedings either, with a number of popular track and field events kick-starting early and medals to be won on the very first day.<\/p>\n
The preliminary rounds of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 100m competitions get under way, while qualification for a series of field events such as hammer throw, high jump, long jump and pole vault also begin.<\/p>\n
Friday also sees a three finals. The men\u2019s and women\u2019s 20km race walks go ahead, while the relatively new mixed 4x400m relay will round off the opening day of activities.<\/p>\n
