<\/p>
Filming has kicked off on brand new Sky Original comedy Dreamland, starring Doctor Who<\/a>\u2018s Freema Agyeman and singer Lily Allen\u00a0in her debut TV role.<\/p>\n Based on the BAFTA-winning short of the same name\u00a0written by Catastrophe\u2019s Sharon Horgan, the new series is set in the\u00a0British seaside town of Margate.<\/p>\n A comedy-drama about a family of four sisters, Dreamland is billed as a dark comedic exploration of multi-generational female relationships, and their (somewhat dysfunctional) family dynamics.<\/p>\n Agyeman plays eldest sister Trish, pregnant for the third time and hoping against hope the child will be her longed-for girl.<\/p> According to the synopsis, Trish\u2019s \u201ctwo sisters Clare (Gabby Best) and Leila (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) rally around her with their mum (Frances Barber) and their Margate- legend nan (Sheila Reid), \u2018manifesting\u2019 a little girl at Trish\u2019s \u2018mani-festival\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile Allen plays sister Mel, whose unexpected reappearance threatens to \u201cdestabilise\u201d the entire family.<\/p>\n Agyeman is best known for playing Martha opposite David Tennant in Doctor Who, while\u00a0Allen is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who recently made headlines when she joined Olivia Rodrigo onstage at Glastonbury to sing her anthem F*** You.<\/p>\n The comedy-drama promises \u201ca heartfelt exploration of the family relationships between these strong, vibrant women\u201d.<\/p>\n The six-part series is produced by Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford\u2019s production company Merman (This Way Up, Motherland), in association with Sky Studios.<\/p>\n Dreamland will air on Sky Comedy and streaming service NOW in 2023.\u00a0<\/strong>Looking for something else to watch?
