HBO has released an official full-length trailer for its Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The series, a prequel set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, will chronicle a Targaryen civil war that rocked Westeros and stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine and Emma D\u2019Arcy.<\/p>\n\nThe epic new teaser sees King Viserys Targaryen (played by <a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/peaky-blinders-season-7-release-cancelled-newsupdate\/"\">Peaky Blinders<\/a> actor Considine) decide to appoint a new successor to the Iron Throne, sparking a war between his younger brother, the heir apparent Prince Daemon Targaryen (<a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-2022-specials-release\/"\">Doctor Who<\/a>\u2018s Smith), and Viserys\u2019 daughter Princess Rhaenyra (D\u2019Arcy).<\/p>\n<a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/movies\/ready-player-two-movie\/"\">Ready Player One<\/a>\u2018s Cooke plays Alicent Hightower, \u00a0the Hand of the King to King Viserys.<\/p>\nThe trailer release comes ahead of House of the Dragon\u2019s Saturday panel at this weekend\u2019s <a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/how-to-watch-comic-con-2022\/"\">San Diego Comic-Con<\/a>, which is expected to debut further footage from the series.<\/p>\nSpeaking to\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/inside-house-of-the-dragon-trailer-cast-1235182776\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik suggested that the new series will have <a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/fantasy\/house-of-the-dragon-sex-scenes-game-of-thrones-newsupdate\/"\">fewer sex scenes than Game of Thrones<\/a>, while the approach to depictions of sexual assault is handled \u201ccarefully, [and] thoughtfully\u201d.<\/p>\nHe added: \u201c[We] don\u2019t shy away from it If anything, we\u2019re going to shine a light on that aspect. You can\u2019t ignore the violence that was perpetrated on women by men in that time. It shouldn\u2019t be downplayed and it shouldn\u2019t be glorified.\u201d<\/p>\nBased on Game of Thrones author Martin\u2019s 2018 novel <a href=\"\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Fire-Blood-Thrones-Targaryen-History\/dp\/0008307733?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-0"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""sponsored" noopener noreferrer\">Fire & Blood<\/a>, House of the Dragon was created by Martin and Ryan J Condal for HBO.
