In a world full of shows like Love Island<\/a>\u00a0and Too Hot to Handle, where sexy singletons are put in a gorgeous location and tested to see whether they can find true love, it\u2019s easy to forget traditional dating where people essentially meet and then go on a date.<\/p>\n It\u2019s the format that most of us follow, and the one Channel 4\u2019s First Dates has been using successfully for 18 seasons. So it\u2019s little wonder the show has no plans to switch it up for season 19 starting tonight (21st July), with the show\u2019s ma\u00eetre d\u2019h\u00f4tel Fred Sirieix insisting: \u201cIf it\u2019s not broken, don\u2019t fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> ahead of the new run, Fred admitted that apart from both being dating shows, there\u2019s little comparison between First Dates and ITV2\u2019s flagship series.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t compare the two really \u2013 they\u2019re two different shows,\u201d he explained. \u201cI love Love Island, by the way! I love watching it and I think it\u2019s very well done. I think it\u2019s very interesting to see how people react and I think there\u2019s a psychological drama behind everything that\u2019s happening. It\u2019s really fascinating.\u201d<\/p> He continued: \u201cFirst Dates isn\u2019t that kind of show. It\u2019s about two people who don\u2019t know each other, who live in different places and sometimes not very far from each other, and they want to meet somebody that they can make a connection with, so that they can spend their life with them.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what most people are looking for when they come on First Dates. And so it\u2019s about that conversation and about finding out whether they have a connection and whether there is chemistry. Chemistry \u2013 that\u2019s what it\u2019s about.\u201d<\/p>\n First Dates starts tonight (Thursday 21st July) on Channel 4 at 10pm.
