It has been more than eight years since the last release in the Dead Space franchise, Dead Space 3, and many people (us included) thought we would never get another one. But then, happily, we were proven wrong!<\/p>\n

A new Dead Space game was announced during the EA Play Live 2021<\/a> live stream, with a creepy trailer that perfectly captured the mood of the original game. The title at the end of the trailer simply said Dead Space, which left a bit of confusion \u2013 is this game a sequel (effectively Dead Space 4) or is it a remake of the first game?<\/p>\n

Although EA didn\u2019t clarify the answer to that question during the event, materials that have popped up online since then have thankfully cleared things up nicely.<\/p>\n

Keep on reading, then, and we\u2019ll tell you once and for all whether this new Dead Space game is a sequel or a remake.\n<\/p>\n

Is the new Dead Space game a sequel or a remake?<\/h2>\n

The answer to that question is more simple than it seemed at first \u2013 we can confirm that the new Dead Space game is a remake!\u00a0The first clue that we saw was on \u00a0Twitter<\/a>, where EA\u2019s official account described the new Dead Space as \u201ca classic rebuilt\u201d.<\/p>\n

And then we saw an even more cut-and-dry confirmation of the game\u2019s status as a remake. Under the trailer on YouTube<\/a>, an official description says, \u201cThe sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

The YouTube description adds that: \u201cHarnessing the power of the Frostbite game engine and next generation consoles, this remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since this new version of Dead Space is made by EA Motive, who have never made a Dead Space game before, it\u2019ll be interesting to see if they stay fully faithful to the original or if they splice in some new ideas. EA Redmond Shores \u2013 the company that made the original Dead Space, and latter became known as Visceral Games \u2013 shut down in 2017, so it will be interesting to see what a different company does with the franchise.<\/p>\n

That statement makes it clear that the new Dead Space is a ground-up remake from scratch, as opposed to a cosmetic remaster like Mass Effect: Legendary Edition<\/a>, which could lead to some drastic upgrades.<\/p>\n
