Marvel\u2019s Loki<\/a> director Kate Herron has weighed in on fan debates about whether or not the romance between Tom Hiddleston\u2019s character and Loki variant\u00a0Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) is a kind of incest.<\/p>\n Speaking to Polygon<\/a>, Herron said Loki falling for an alternate version of himself was a kind of \u201cself love\u201d but stressed that she doesn\u2019t \u201csee them as being like brother and sister\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cMy interpretation of it is that they\u2019re both Lokis, but they aren\u2019t the same person,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t see them as being like brother and sister. They have completely different backgrounds [\u2026] and I think that\u2019s really important to her character. They sort of have the same role in terms of the universe and destiny, but they won\u2019t make the same decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, \u201c[The show is] looking at the self and asking \u2018What makes us us?\u2019 I mean, look at all the Lokis across the show, they\u2019re all completely different. I think there\u2019s something beautiful about his romantic relationship with Sylvie, but they\u2019re not interchangeable.\u201d<\/p> Herron\u2019s work on the spin-off Marvel series has been widely praised by critics and fans alike but she recently announced that she won\u2019t be returning to direct Loki season two.<\/p>\n Speaking to Deadline<\/a>, Herron broke the news that she would be bidding farewell to the God of Mischief, just two days after the second season was officially confirmed via the Loki post-credits scene<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not returning,\u201d she said. \u201cI always planned to be just on for this, and to be honest, season two wasn\u2019t in the \u2014 that\u2019s something that just came out, and I\u2019m so excited.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I\u2019m proud of what we did here and I\u2019ve given it my all.
