Netflix is diving back into true crime with its upcoming docuseries I Just Killed My Dad \u2013 a three-parter exploring why Anthony Templet shot his father in 2019.<\/p>\n

The series, which Netflix<\/a> teases as an \u201cunprecedented\u201d look at an \u201cunbelievable, never-been-told-before true story\u201d, takes viewers back in June 2019 when 17-year-old Anthony Templet shot and killed his father after the two got into an argument in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

The case isn\u2019t as straight-forward as it seems however, as Templet himself says in the docuseries, and in the trailer, we see that some of the other contributors have different opinions.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said his father physically attacked him,\u201d an officer says in the clip. \u201cI did not see any bruising or injuries to Anthony.\u201d<\/p>\n\nHere\u2019s everything you need to know about Anthony Templet, what he did and where he is now.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is Anthony Templet?<\/strong><\/h2>\nAnthony Templet is a 20-year-old from Louisiana who killed his father Burt Templet after shooting him at their home in June 2019.<\/p>\nTemplet was initially charged with second-degree murder, however the charge was later reduced to manslaughter after his family said that he had acted in self defense after being subjected to abuse by his father for years, according to <a href=\"\/\/www.wafb.com\/2021\/03\/01\/anthony-templet-offered-plea-deal-homicide-case-against-him\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">WAFB9<\/a>.<\/p>\nLast year, he pled no contest to a negligent homicide charge for the death of his father and was sentenced to five years of arrested after shooting his father at their Baton Rouge home.<\/p>\nAccording to <a href=\"\/\/www.fox8live.com\/2022\/07\/14\/netflix-series-br-killing-debut-next-month\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">Fox8 Local First<\/a>, Templet shot his father after the two got into an argument over Anthony\u2019s mobile phone, which Burt had been trying to look through to see if Anthony had been speaking to his ex-wife Susan.<\/p>\nAnthony described what happened in a 911 call after shooting his father, saying: \u201cHe tried to attack me. Then, we got into a fist fight. Then, I ran in his room, closed the door and got a gun.<\/p>\n\u201cAs I unlocked the door, he tried to {inaudible} and then I shot him.\u201d<\/p>\nHe goes onto say that he had fired three shots and tried to shoot him in the head but was not sure if he had been killed, however he knew he had shot him as he saw blood on the floor.<\/p>\nBurt died several days later, with Anthony being charged with second-degree murder.<\/p>\nHowever, when Anthony\u2019s family said that he had acted in self-defense and said he was regularly abused by his father for years, the charges were downgraded to manslaughter.<\/p>\nAnthony\u2019s family alleged to press that Burt had kept him secluded from the rest of his family for years, having taken him from their home in Texas when Anthony 5-years-old.<\/p> \u201cAfter 11 years of waiting to hear if my brother was still alive, he is found,\u201d Anthony\u2019s sister Natasha told <a href=\"\/\/www.wafb.com\/2019\/06\/24\/family-says-baton-rouge-teen-who-killed-father-went-missing-years-ago\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">WAFB<\/a> in 2019, revealing that she only discovered where he was after his arrest for manslaughter.<\/p>\n\u201cHe has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father. My brave brother had to defend himself for the last time against that evil man,\u201d she added. \u201cHe snatched him from our home. Burt and my mom were together for about ten years and it was extremely violent.\u201d<\/p>\nAccording to <a href=\"\/\/www.theadvocate.com\/baton_rouge\/news\/courts\/article_a89331e4-7866-11eb-b274-e3d4c7f08b5d.html"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">The Advocate<\/a>, Templet told a judge that he had never completed a year in school as his father hadn\u2019t allowed him to attend.<\/p>\nNatasha added that Burt had been \u201cextremely violent\u201d towards their mother when he was with her for 10 years.<\/p>\nDetails also came to light of Burt Templet\u2019s abusive past, with his ex-wife Susan filing an order of protection against him several months before the shooting, according to court documents obtained by WAFB. They also state that he was physically abusive and in one instance, knocked some of her teeth out.<\/p>\n<h2>Where is Anthony Templet now?<\/strong><\/h2>\nIn March 2021, Anthony Templet was convicted of negligent homicide over the death of his father, and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation with credit for the time he had already served in prison.<\/p>\nThe judge also added a special condition which required Templet to obtain a high school diploma during his supervised probation.<\/p>\nProsecutor Dana Cummings said during the judgment: \u201cWhat would time in jail do for this young man who has never actually had a chance to learn or to have friends or to be in the world?\u201d<\/p>\nAnthony, who is now 20, will appear in Netflix\u2019s upcoming documentary I Just Killed My Dad, in which he\u2019ll speak about his father\u2019s death.<\/p>\nI Just Killed My Dad arrived on Netflix on Tuesday 9th August.
