Tennis legend Serena Williams has revealed that she is set to retire from tennis after this year\u2019s US Open.<\/p>\n
The former World Number One \u2013 who is second in the all-time list of Grand Slam winners with 23 majors \u2013 announced the news in an emotional cover story for the latest issue of Vogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI have never liked the word retirement<\/em>,\u201d she said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel like a modern word to me. I\u2019ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe the best word to describe what I\u2019m up to is evolution.<\/em> I\u2019m here to tell you that I\u2019m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n For Vogue\u2019s September issue, @serenawilliams<\/a> sat down with contributing editor Rob Haskell to compose her thoughts about preparing to say farewell to tennis\u2014on her own terms and in her own words.
