Mays (Snowfall), Omar Epps (House), Hailey Kilgore (The Village), Patina Miller (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Natalee Linez (Siren).<\/p>\n The series is set in the 1990s and serves as a backstory to the character of Kanan Stark, who was played by 50 Cent in the main Power series.<\/p>\n As with the original Power there is set to be a strong focus on family, particularly on Kanan\u2019s relationship with his mother, ruthless queen pin Raquel Thomas.<\/p>\n Curtis told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> that Kanan\u2019s mother \u201cis his world\u201d, adding: \u201cOne of the biggest themes that you\u2019re going to see throughout the show is a mother\u2019s love for her son, a son\u2019s love for his mother, and what they\u2019re willing to do to protect each other.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the family theme will also continue with a character from the original Power \u2013 Kanan\u2019s cousin Jukebox, who is set for a large role in the spin-off series. As hinted at previously, the prequel will show how Kanan and Jukebox have been close since they were kids, and add further insight into their adult relationship in Power.<\/p>\n While the series starts in 1991, it\u2019s possible that as time progresses in the show we could eventually see younger versions of other\u00a0characters from the franchise, including Tommy and Ghost.<\/p>\n Star Mekai Curtis told EW<\/a> that the prequel series would be \u201ca Power that you haven\u2019t seen before\u201d due to a focus on the \u201990s time period \u2013 an era that would influence the tone as well as the fashion.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was just a different time period; the clothes, the music, just the overall atmosphere, and mindset were a lot grittier and grimier,\u201d Curtis said. \u201cYou don\u2019t really get to see that sort of thing on TV anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n The full-length trailer was released in June 2021 \u2013 only a month before the show\u2019s premiere \u2013 and teases Kanan\u2019s first foray into drug dealing amidst several \u201990s references.<\/p>\n\n The first teaser trailer for the series was released in December 2020, with 50 Cent providing some narration over images of the cast sporting some very \u201990s fashion.<\/p>\n He says, \u201cYou already know how my s**t ended, this is how it started.
