Smith \u2013 who famously played the Eleventh Doctor between 2010 and 2013 \u2013 takes on the key role of Daemon Targaryen in the new Westeros spin-off, starring alongside the likes of Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D\u2019Arcy.<\/p>
And during an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a>, he was asked if his years as the Doctor were good preparation in terms of the legacy associated with Game of Thrones and the likely fan response.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, I think so,\u201d he replied. \u201cProbably, because you\u2019ve experienced something similar and it\u2019s a similar genre \u2013 not genre, but you know what I mean.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd, you know, the expectation when you play the Doctor is quite daunting, and this, I\u2019m sharing it with like 20 other actors.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if he had had any words of advice about appearing in such a mammoth franchise for his co-star Considine and the rest of the cast, he responded: \u201cNo, no, no. I would never presume!\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Considine \u2013 who plays Daemon\u2019s brother King Viserys \u2013 joked, \u201cI\u2019ll just be in hiding!\u201d<\/p>\n The new series launches on Sky Atlantic and NOW this Monday, telling the story of House Targaryen 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.<\/p>\n Smith\u2019s character Daemon is the younger brother to King Viserys and the current heir to the throne, and is described as \u201ca peerless warrior and a dragon rider\u201d who \u201cpossesses the true blood of the dragon\u201d.<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Morgan Jeffrey.<\/em><\/p>\n House of the Dragon is available\u00a0from 22nd August exclusively on Sky Atlantic and streaming service\u00a0NOW<\/a>.
