While McAfee was reported to have died last June, having taken his life in a Spanish jail cell after his extradition back to the US had been approved, McAfee\u2019s ex-girlfriend Samantha Venegas claims in the documentary that he is still alive.<\/p>\n
In the last interview clip that features in Running with the Devil, Venegas is asked when she was last in touch with McAfee, to which she responds: \u201cI don\u2019t know if I should say.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas. \u2018It\u2019s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead.<\/p>\n

Footage of Venegas features in the first half of the documentary, during which a camera crew follows McAfee and Venegas as they flee Belize and head to Guatemala.<\/p>\n
Shortly after McAfee made it back to the United States, he broke off his relationship with Venegas and married Janice Dyson.<\/p>\n
Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> in an exclusive interview, McAfee\u2019s ghost writer, Alex Cody Foster \u2013 who also appears in the documentary \u2013 when asked about Venegas\u2019s claims, said: \u201cI have a couple of thoughts on that.\u201d<\/p>\n He alleged:\u00a0\u201cSam loved him so much. John was telling me she had no qualms lying to, like, get in his good graces many times. And I think we all are capable of that when we love somebody.<\/p>\n \u201cOn that basis, I don\u2019t think she\u2019s the most credible person but at the same time, I had a similar experience. So when I when I saw that in the film, I was like, \u2018What the hell like that happened to me too!’\u201d<\/p> He went on to say that while he didn\u2019t receive a call from McAfee, he received a notification on the Telegram app a month after his death alerting him that McAfee\u2019s number had signed up to the app.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018What in the world? This is weird.\u2019 So, I texted the number and I was like, \u2018Hey, you\u2019re using a dead man\u2019s phone? Who are you?\u2019 And they read the message and didn\u2019t respond.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cSoon after, that number just got wiped, so I thought a number of things could have happened \u2013\u00a0like someone has John\u2019s phone, Janice [John\u2019s wife] has John\u2019s phone, or maybe John has John\u2019s phone.
