The broadcaster announced during the ad break that Big Brother<\/a> would be returning and now, after weeks of speculation as to exactly what led to their decision, ITV\u2019s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo, has explained their reasoning.<\/p>\n Speaking at the Edinburgh International TV Festival 2022, Lygo said that the decision to revive the iconic reality series was partly influenced by the upcoming launch of the broadcaster\u2019s new streaming service ITVX<\/a>, as they hope to drive an audience to the new platform.<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cWe look at Love Island and we see this extraordinarily successful show that defies all current logic and goes against what people say, that young people don\u2019t watch terrestrial television.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cAnd you think, every single night at nine o\u2019clock on ITV2 and the Hub is this show for eight weeks, that more young people watch than they watch anything else. And we should all take great joy in the fact that if you get the right show, they\u2019re going to come and watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n Lygo noted that Big Brother is unlikely to \u201cskew as young as Love Island does\u201d due to the former show\u2019s legacy, and called it \u201carguably the sort of best thing there\u2019s ever been on television, or most extraordinary thing, that shaped most television afterwards\u201d.<\/p> He also said that he didn\u2019t think the show was \u201cthat big a risk\u201d, explaining that people will watch because \u201cthey\u2019ll want to know what we\u2019re gonna do with it, is it gonna be any good and then if we do our jobs properly it will be good, and you\u2019ll stick and you\u2019ll think, \u2018Christ, I\u2019ve got to watch this now every single night,\u2019 and it will ruin your lives.\u201d<\/p>\n Lygo\u2019s comments come as speculation around the revival continues to run riot, with fans desperate to know who will host the new series. Emma Willis<\/a> has confirmed it won\u2019t be her, while narrator Marcus Bentley<\/a> has said that Rylan Clark would be \u201cperfect\u201d<\/a> for the role.<\/p>\n The Big Brother revival will air on ITV2 in 2023.
