The next Doctor Who<\/a> special will air in October, it has been confirmed.<\/p>\n Speaking at this year\u2019s Edinburgh International TV Festival, Charlotte Moore \u2013 the BBC\u2019s Chief Content Officer \u2013 announced that the episode would air as part of a week of specials celebrating the BBC\u2019s 100th birthday.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve got a week celebrating our centenary in October, where we\u2019ll have some specials,\u201d said Moore. \u201cWe\u2019ve got the Doctor Who centenary special.\u201d<\/p>\n Pressed for any teasers about the episode, Moore refused to divulge details, saying: \u201cI cannot tell you anything about that!\u201d<\/p> She also referenced upcoming special episodes of Strictly Come Dancing<\/a>, Antiques Roadshow and The One Show, saying the celebratory week would celebrate the past of the BBC, but also \u201clook at what the BBC means for the future \u2013 launching new shows, launching new talent, [and] celebrating the diversity of what we do\u201d.<\/p>\n Doctor Who\u2019s as-yet-untitled centenary special will see Jodie Whittaker exit the show<\/a> after four years on-screen as the Thirteenth Doctor. It will also mark showrunner Chris Chibnall\u2019s departure from the long-running BBC sci-fi series.<\/p>\n The Master (Sacha Dhawan) will return for the Thirteenth Doctor\u2019s swan song, while the Daleks and the Cybermen \u2013 including Ashad (Patrick O\u2019Kane), also known as the Lone Cyberman \u2013 will also appear.<\/p>\n
