The BBC\u2019s upcoming Waterloo Road revival will see the series \u201creimagined\u201d for modern audiences.<\/p>\n

Speaking at this year\u2019s Edinburgh International TV Festival, Charlotte Moore, the BBC\u2019s Chief Content Officer, spoke about the trend of rebooting old shows, arguing that it \u201ctakes a lot of creativity\u201d to get it right.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s that easy to bring titles back and be successful \u2013 I think it actually takes a lot of creativity and it\u2019s a real creative challenge,\u201d said Moore.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re going to have an impact with young audiences and get people to come to a show, there\u2019s no doubt about it \u2013 some of these big titles really help create that impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf that was all we were doing, I would be very worried, but there\u2019s lots of new shows coming through.\u201d<\/p>

Asked to respond to comments made earlier in the day by Channel 4 boss Ian Katz, who called the revival of shows like Big Brother \u201cdepressing\u201d<\/a>, Moore said: \u201cThey [Channel 4] brought Bake Off [back] and rebooted that, didn\u2019t they?\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued:\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s depressing, I think it\u2019s a challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve just been watching the new Waterloo Road<\/a> series and I think it\u2019s reimagined for the modern day and I think it\u2019s going to be great. [Reboots have] always been part of television \u2013 I think you have to do it judiciously, I think you have to do it with real intent to reinvent it for a new generation, but yeah, I think it\u2019s part of what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same session, Moore confirmed that the upcoming Doctor Who<\/a> centenary special would air in October<\/a>, while Kate Phillips, Director of BBC Unscripted, addressed the decision to cancel long-running panel show Mock the Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Set in a comprehensive school of the same name and exploring the lives of its students and teachers, Waterloo Road originally aired on the BBC for 10 seasons between 2006 and 2015.<\/p>\n

The upcoming season 11 will see the likes of Kym Marsh<\/a>\u00a0and Rachel Leskovac join as school staff, while\u00a0Angela Griffin (Kim Campbell), Adam Thomas (Donte Charles) and Kate Griffiths (Chlo Grainger) will be reprising their roles<\/a>.<\/p>\n
