And given just how successful the film has proven to be, some cinemagoers might be wondering if Tom Cruise will be back in the role of Pete \u2018Maverick\u2019 Mitchell again at some point in the future.<\/p>\n
Veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer was instrumental in getting the new film made, and so in an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a> to promote its VOD release, we asked him what the chances were of more sequels further down the line.<\/p> \u201cWell, we had been working for years to try to get the second one made \u2013 it took such a long time,\u201d he responded. \u201cAnd finally Joe [Kosinski, director] and Tom [Cruise] and McQ [writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie] came together, and we ended up with a movie that we love and our audiences love.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t tell you what the future is going to bring,\u201d he added. \u201cIf you\u2019d asked me in \u201986, \u2018Do you think you\u2019ll have a sequel out in a few years?\u2019 I\u2019d have said maybe. But it took 30-something years to do it!\u201d<\/p>\n While that\u2019s by no means a sign that we\u2019ll definitely see another film in the franchise any time soon, it\u2019s worth noting that Bruckheimer didn\u2019t rule out the possibility \u2013 so there is still a chance Maverick and co will be back on the big screen again.<\/p>\n Speaking more generally about the ecstatic reaction to the film, Bruckheimer admitted that he was slightly taken by surprise at just how popular it proved \u2013 especially with the younger demographic.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an iconic \u201986 movie that people remember seeing with their fathers,\u201d he said of the original. \u201cAnd now they\u2019re the fathers and they wanted to take their sons to see it. But as it turned out, it was a family film \u2013 everybody came to see this movie.<\/p>\n \u201cInitially, we were worried that it was mostly for an older audience. But we were wrong \u2013 at least I was wrong, I can\u2019t talk for anybody else. And the kids as young as they get came to see this movie multiple times \u2013 and are still seeing it multiple times!\u201d<\/p>\n Top Gun: Maverick is now available to own digitally.
