<\/p>
Adrian Dunbar is set to helm brand new detective drama Ridley<\/a>, but you shouldn\u2019t confuse his character \u2013 a retired detective inspector who is brought back into the force for a complicated case \u2013 with Line of Duty<\/a>\u2018s Ted Hastings.<\/p>\n A preview clip for the first episode, which is exclusive to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, reveals why.\u00a0The character isn\u2019t in uniform, for one, and he clearly has a fraught history in the force due to a complicated past.<\/p>\n Dunbar has previously spoken about the differences between the two characters, telling\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/strong> and other press:\u00a0\u201cI suppose I\u2019m getting to play a lot more of me in Ridley because he\u2019s out of the office. Ted, most of the time you saw him within a very tight world of the office and of policing.<\/p> \u201cYou very rarely saw him outside or saw his backstory at work, whereas Ridley has got a lot of introspection and reflection. It\u2019s somebody dealing with a tragedy towards the end of their life and so therefore, I think probably I\u2019m having to bring a bit more of myself to those moments of emotion that the role requires.\u201d<\/p>\n In the clip, Ridley is signing in to visit the police station where he has been brought in as a consultant to help former mentee, acting DI Carol Farman (Unforgotten\u2019s<\/a> Bronagh Waugh).<\/p>\n \u201cOh, I wasn\u2019t expecting a welcoming committee,\u201d he tells DCI Paul Goodwin (Terence Maynard) when he comes to collect him \u2013\u00a0but it\u2019s far from it.<\/p>\n His former colleague tells him, \u201cI thought I\u2019d take the opportunity to lay down some ground rules. You will answer to Mr Ridley, as you\u2019re no longer a working detective,\u201d before explaining what he is and isn\u2019t allowed to do. Which doesn\u2019t sound like much.<\/p>\n \u201cHands up, arm\u2019s length, hardly worth my while coming back,\u201d Ridley says.<\/p>\n But Goodwin warns him: \u201cLet\u2019s get one thing straight, shall we, I only cleared this with human resources after I guaranteed personally that you\u2019re fit and able to work.
