The BBC\/HBO television series has adapted a book per season, but when asked by RadioTimes.com<\/a>, executive producer Jane Tranter admitted that she would have liked more episodes.<\/p>\n Speaking at a panel at this year\u2019s Edinburgh International TV Festival, Tranter said: \u201cHonestly, I would have told it across nine seasons if I could have done. There are so many stories that we weren\u2019t able to do.\u201d<\/p>\n She singled out a storyline in the fantasy drama\u2019s second season featuring Ruta Skadi (Jade Anouka) as a plot point that might have been expanded. \u201cWhen Ruta Skadi meets the angels in season 2, it\u2019s kind of like \u2018Oh look, there\u2019s some angels, I\u2019m gonna go off now.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cIn the book there\u2019s this amazing sequence [with those characters] and there just isn\u2019t time to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n Tranter added that the \u201creal estate of television\u201d often allows series adaptations to \u201cslow everything down\u201d and expand on the source material.<\/p>\n \u201cI would have slowed this [His Dark Materials] down even more,\u201d she said. \u201cBut unfortunately that\u2019s probably the wrong thing for an audience \u2013 some would have liked it, but it\u2019s expensive and it\u2019s a season-a-book and that\u2019s that and now it\u2019s finishing.\u201d<\/p>\n Starring Dafne Keen, Amir Wilson, Ruth Wilson and James McAvoy<\/a>, His Dark Materials follows Lyra (Keen), as she goes in search of a missing friend, uncovering a series of kidnappings and their link to a mysterious substance called Dust, all of which leads her on an epic quest.<\/p>\n The series is expected to return to BBC One and HBO later this year.<\/p> Read more coverage from the Edinburgh International TV Festival 2022:<\/strong><\/p>\n For more, check out our dedicated Fantasy<\/a>\u00a0page or our full\u00a0TV Guide<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n The latest issue of Radio Times magazine is on sale now \u2013\u00a0subscribe now<\/a>\u00a0and get the next 12 issues for only \u00a31.
