The British actor plays DCI Rachel Carey and stars alongside series newcomer Paapa Essiedu<\/a> in the new season.<\/p>\n Now, Grainger has teased that her character\u2019s story is only going to get bigger and bigger.<\/p>\n \u201cFor her [Carey] it starts with a murder and gradually, it just gets deeper and deeper,\u201d she told RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press. \u201cThe<\/span> more she unveils, the<\/span> higher the <\/span>stakes become for her and her own life. Thank God she went to those self defence classes [laughs].\u201d<\/p>\n Grainger also acknowledged that the Rachel we see in the latest chapter is not the woman we were first introduced to in The Capture\u2019s debut outing.<\/p>\n \u201cShe was a purist,\u201d she explained. \u201cShe completely believed in the<\/span> police and the<\/span> authorities, and she was slightly naive. She had her eyes opened to the<\/span> corruption she didn\u2019t believe was the<\/span>re and because of that, she\u2019s been left believing that her life is possibly in danger, and so she\u2019s paranoid and anxious and untrustful of everyone, and untrusted.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a very lonely place to be in.\u201d<\/p>\n But there are still strands of Rachel\u2019s character that are familiar.<\/p>\n At the end of season 1, the detective took up the offer to join the Correction team, even in light of Shaun Emery\u2019s guilty conviction<\/a>. But in the latest instalment, we learn that Rachel is attempting to take down Correction from the inside by building a dossier of incriminating evidence against the tech and those who use it.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s still the<\/span> same person with that strong moral compass,\u201d explained Grainger. \u201cAnd she\u2019s very headstrong and single-minded, and that\u2019s what I love about her. She\u2019s unmovable in her morals and ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n And it looks like she has recruited two new members to her team, with security minister Isaac Turner and Newsnight presenter Khadija Khan (Indira Varma) having both now witnessed Correction in action.<\/p>\n Chatting to RadioTimes.com<\/strong> and other press about the relationship between Rachel and Isaac, Paapa Essiedu added: \u201cThe<\/span>y definitely both have a lot to gain and a lot to lose in the<\/span> series. And the<\/span>y both have a go at seeing how the<\/span>ir opposite number could be useful to one anothe<\/span>r.\u201d<\/p> The Capture continues on Sunday 4th September on BBC One at 9pm.
