It\u2019s safe to say that the new Netflix film I Came By<\/a> packs a fair few twists and turns into its runtime \u2013 and one of the biggest of all concerns the character played by 1917 star George MacKay.<\/p>\n

MacKay stars as Toby, a disaffected graffiti artist who protests against the system by breaking into the houses of the super-rich and leaving a message painted on their walls, only for things to take a very unexpected turn later down the line.<\/p>\n

And speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about whether he\u2019d had any idea what was going to happen to his character before reading the script, MacKay revealed that he was initially very much in the dark.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing,\u201d he said when asked what director Babak Anvari had told him about the storyline. \u201cSeriously, nothing. So my reaction was like \u2018No\u2026 No \u2026NO! What? Wow!’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d added co-star Percelle Ascott, who plays Toby\u2019s best mate Jay. \u201cI went [forward] a few pages and I was like, \u2018Wait, what?\u2019 And I had to go backward, like I just couldn\u2019t get over what was going on. And I was like, \u2018OK Babak!’\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Hugh Bonneville, who plays the film\u2019s antagonist \u2013 a retired high court judge named Hector Blake \u2013 said he was similarly taken aback when he first read the script.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I read it, it was a real page turner, and constantly surprising,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know, you set off thinking you\u2019re on one journey, and then it takes a right-hand turn, and you\u2019re in a whole different world \u2013 in the same world, but a different angle of it.\u201d<\/p>

And Anvari has said he can\u2019t wait to see some of the reactions from viewers when the film arrives on Netflix.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to see how people react to the twists and turns,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd I\u2019m hoping that people like them. I mean, I\u2019m pretty sure I cannot please everyone, but I can\u2019t wait to see the reactions. In my head, I always wanted it to be a bit of a rollercoaster ride, so I hope it delivers on that!\u201d<\/p>\n
