On this week\u2019s Radio Times<\/strong> cover is Bake Off winner and chef extraordinaire Nadiya Hussain.<\/p>\n

Opening up about her work to Radio Times magazine<\/strong>, she explains that she has finally come to terms with the fact that she\u2019s really good at what she does \u2013 but that doesn\u2019t stop her proud parents from regarding her TV career as no more important than her sisters\u2019 jobs in teaching and working in a pharmacy.<\/p>\n

The Bake Off star \u2013 whose new series Nadiya\u2019s Everyday Baking begins on BBC Two next week \u2013 also reveals that her parents didn\u2019t allow her to go to university in London to study psychology for fear that she would be corrupted.<\/p>\n

Hussain talks about the reaction to her recent statement that she\u2019s a fan of no-waster, \u201cnose-to-tail\u201d eating when it comes to meat, too, which is perhaps something we could all learn from in this economic downturn.<\/p>\n

She also touches upon how cooking helped her family deal with the death of her sister-in-law at the age of 34.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn difficult, dark moments like that it is really tough to function normally,\u201d Hussain said. \u201cIt\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve experienced a loss so close to my family and it\u2019s going to affect us forever. But what I did notice was that, even in death, food becomes central. It\u2019s the thing that brings everyone together.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were having to accommodate her family, making sure they were fed and looked after. And that was all [through] food.\u00a0It was, \u2018Let\u2019s cook. Let\u2019s make them things that they enjoy.\u2019 It was all food-centred. It put a smile on people\u2019s faces [and] gave them sustenance.\u201d<\/p>\n
