{"id":21221,"date":"2022-09-01T14:37:37","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T12:37:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1700829"},"modified":"2022-09-01T14:58:10","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T12:58:10","slug":"till-death-do-us-part-lost-episodes-to-air-on-tv-for-first-time-in-50-years","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/till-death-do-us-part-lost-episodes-to-air-on-tv-for-first-time-in-50-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Till Death Do Us Part \u2018lost\u2019 episodes to air on TV for first time in 50 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Patrick Cremona\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 01 September 2022 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>That\u2019s TV has announced that it is set to broadcast four episodes of classic sitcom Till Death Us Do Part that have not been seen on British TV for more than 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>The channel \u2013 which specialises in classic TV \u2013 will be showing reruns of the sitcom as part of its upcoming Alf Garnett season, which will begin on Sunday 4th September 2022 at 9pm.<\/p>\n<p>In total, it will be broadcasting 80 episodes of Till Death Us Do Part and its successor In Sickness and in Health, but it\u2019s the four \u2018lost\u2019 episodes which will be particularly enticing for viewers.<\/p>\n<p>The four episodes are titled Intolerance (season 1 episode 4), In Sickness and in Health (season 2 episode 8), State Visit (season 2 episode 9) and The Phone (season 3 episode 1) and will all be shown in early September.<\/p>\n<p>They each went missing from the archives in the late \u201960s, along with most other early episodes of the sitcom, but have since been rediscovered by technicians and film collectors.<\/p> <p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\">The series originally ran for seven seasons on BBC One between 1965 and 1975, with In Sickness and in Health then airing for a further six runs from 1985 to 992.<\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\">It was previously described by Prince Philip as the Queen\u2019s favourite TV programme, and follows the exploits of Alf Garnett \u2013 who was described by actor Warren Mitchell as \u201can ignorant, loud-mouthed, stupid pig of a man. A know-all. Nasty, repulsive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\">It shows Alf constantly squabbling with his wife Else (by Dandy Nichols), daughter Rita (Una Stubbs) and son-in-law Mike (Anthony Booth), with producer Dennis Main Wilson explaining in 1973 that the \u201c<span class=\"&quot;x_color11&quot;\">intention was to hold a mirror up to the world\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\"><span class=\"&quot;x_color11&quot;\">\u201cLet it see itself \u2013 warts and all,\u201d he added. \u201cWith his loud-mouthed bigotries, he was to be the anti-hero. Alf Garnett\u2019s antics provided compulsive viewing for four decades and That\u2019s TV is excited to have secured the rights to show every season of the show this autumn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\">\u201cWhilst only a small number of the episodes from the 1960s still exist, they represent an extraordinary social commentary of the time. These episodes have a special place in television history and are of wider historic significance, with Alf Garnett rallying against the changing attitudes of the 1960s.\u201d<b\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;x_MsoNormal&quot;\">Meanwhile, Connie Speight \u2013 the widow of the show\u2019s creator Johnny Speight \u2013 said that it was \u201cwonderful news that That\u2019s TV will be showing these \u2018lost\u2019 episodes of Till Death Us Do Part from the 1960s\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiscovering these lost episodes from the 1960s is like finding a time capsule,\u201d added Speight\u2019s daughter Samantha. \u201cIt should not just be academics that get to see TV shows from the last century and discuss their impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is something special about watching episodes which have not been broadcast for so long.
