Shane Richie has teased how his returning EastEnders<\/a> character Alfie Moon will involve Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) in his plots to win back Kat Slater.<\/p>\n

It was confirmed earlier this year that Shane Richie would be reprising his role full-time as Alfie Moon in the autumn<\/a>, with Richie making a small cameo appearance earlier this summer<\/a> via a video call with son Tommy.<\/p>\n

The character was last in Albert Square in January 2019 when he fled Walford after stealing money from Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) \u2013 which his wife Kat (Jessie Wallace) later returned.<\/p>\n

However, Alfie will return to Walford to win back his former wife just as she is about to marry her new partner \u2013 Phil himself!<\/p>\n

Now, Shane Richie has lifted the lid on his big return to EastEnders when speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other outlets at a press event in Elstree last month.<\/p>

When asked how he was persuaded to return to EastEnders, Shane Richie described how new executive producer Chris Clenshaw sold Alfie\u2019s return storyline.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWell, I\u2019ll tell you now. I was playing a drag queen at the time \u2013 it\u2019s all out there on social media \u2013 and I got a phone call from Chris and he was sitting in a darkened room, holding a cat. \u2018I\u2019m gonna make her an offer you can\u2019t refuse.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sat down, and he said: \u2018This is the idea of bringing Alfie back.\u2019 And then he sold it to me. He said, \u2018Listen, we want the old Alfie. Because over the years there have been all very different Alfies, my favourite Alfie\u2019s from 2002 to 2005.\u2019 And yeah, that\u2019s the Alfie we\u2019ve got back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richie also revealed that Clenshaw wanted to bring back Alfie\u2019s flowery shirts, but Richie was less keen due to his age \u2013\u00a0 until running into Tony Jordan, the man who created Alfie Moon, the Mitchells and the Slaters.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got a flowery shirt and the jacket and boots,\u201d recalls Richie.\u00a0\u201cSo, Chris was selling to me and telling me the long-term storyline for Alfie \u2013 the old Alfie, the one who used to look after his Nana Moon and wore his heart on his sleeve and tries to make life everything but, you know, through his own innocence and naivety still gets it wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richie also commented how Clenshaw understands how the soap only works with the \u201clight and the shade\u201d, and Richie is happy to \u201ccome in and bring the light\u2026 if we can get Alfie doing up to his tricks and scams\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs he gonna get back with Kat? Can\u2019t say, you keep watching\u2026 and if you get that right then the drama is so much more dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor credits the \u201cteam effort, it\u2019s collaborative,\u201d as he can discuss the stories with the scriptwriters and with the producers behind the scenes more than ever before.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to come and play the joker and all that because that means the drama is so much greater,\u201d notes Richie.<\/p>\n

So, will Alfie get back together with his old soulmate Kat?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c20 years later, all the things that have happened to between Kat and Alfie, and there\u2019s still a spark,\u201d the actor reveals. \u201cAnd this was clever, this is what [Clenshaw] created. So now Alfie\u2019s become Phil Mitchell\u2019s almost-nemesis.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd there are some wonderful scripts where Alfie is calling Phil \u2013 to his face \u2013 Mr Potatohead or Gru from Minions. And that is the only reason why Alfie knows he can get away with it, because he knows Kat is standing there and Kat won\u2019t let anything happen to him while she\u2019s in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cSo this is where, you know, we get the comedy and drama and yet, our Alfie still burns a candle for Kat. And he\u2019s trying to convince Kat that she feels the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been on the show now six weeks, and my backside hasn\u2019t been home \u2013\u00a0<\/span>and I\u2019m playing some wonderful stuff with Kat and Alife, where you\u2019re going: \u2018Will they? Won\u2019t they? Oh no, that\u2019s not going to happen\u2026’\u201d<\/p>\n

Alfie will return to Walford as Kat and Phil\u2019s wedding day arrives in the week commencing 12th September 2022, but will he manage to put a stop to the nuptials?<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Alfie is not alone in wanting to halt vows being exchanged as Phil\u2019s ex-wife Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) also still carries a torch for Mr Mitchell.<\/p>\n

Additionally, in a tease of a future storyline involving the recently divorced Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Richie said: \u201cIs Alfie using Linda to get to Kat?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans will be more than aware that Linda is currently embroiled in her own love triangle as she pines for ex-husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) who is currently in a romantic relationship with scheming Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).<\/p>\n

Will Alfie prove a romantic distraction for Linda amid her heartache? Or could he become a more long-term romance as Mick departs the show later this year?<\/p>\n
