It\u2019s been well documented that James May was hospitalised after he crashed while filming an upcoming episode of The Grand Tour<\/a> \u2013 and now, the presenter has opened up about the incident.<\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press ahead of the launch of the new special \u2013 titled A Scandi Flick \u2013 May explained that although the crash looks \u201cquite dramatic\u201d he managed to escape more or less unscathed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very brief,\u201d he said. \u201cMade a loud bang. It wasn\u2019t really that terrible, I don\u2019t think. It looks quite dramatic but I was basically OK.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe car wasn\u2019t, the car was pretty bent actually,\u201d he added. \u201cI didn\u2019t think it was gonna go again. But you know, with a bit of help from some ingenious local mechanics, obviously, I couldn\u2019t do very much of it because my rib hurt but yeah, they sort of squeezed it back into shape, shall we say?\u201d<\/p>

He went on to explain that the crash didn\u2019t end up altering the plans for the rest of the episode, although he confessed that if the car had been \u201ccompletely ruined\u201d \u2013 or if he\u2019d suffered more extreme injuries \u2013 they might have had to make changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut actually, because we managed to make the car work, we carried on,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe lost about a day, because I had to mend the car, and I was in the hospital for the night. But apart from that, I don\u2019t really think it made any difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still did all the things we wanted to do \u2013 it didn\u2019t affect towing the caravan, it didn\u2019t affect doing the skewering thing, driving on the lake. No, it didn\u2019t really make any difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt meant that the hero of the show became the yellow car for soldiering on which we wouldn\u2019t have had without the crash, I suppose. I did it deliberately, I knew it was going to be boring otherwise [so I] sort of drove it to the cliff!\u201d<\/p>\n
