The Midwich Cuckoo<\/a> and Succession<\/a> stars are playing another real-life married couple in ITV three-part drama Stonehouse<\/a>,<\/p>\n The story revolves around \u201cdisgraced Labour minister\u201d John Stonehouse, who faked his own death during a trip to Miami in 1974, leaving behind his wife Barbara and their three young children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Macfadyen described it as a \u201cfascinating story\u201d in an interview with<\/span>\u00a0The Mirror<\/a> , but a tale that\u2019s also \u201cvery sad in many ways\u201d.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cHe leaves his wife and kids. Everything unravelled. It is to do with proximity to power and ambition and vanity and all the rest of it. He had started having affairs and in our story he was moonlighting for Czech secret services and making money from that, and it all got too much for him.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking to The Guardian<\/a> about working with her own partner on the project, Hawes said: \u201cWe just had far too nice a time. There\u2019s this feeling of: \u2018They\u2019re married, how\u2019s this going to be?\u2019 Ultimately, he\u2019s an actor that I would have loved to work with anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSo yes, it was a joy.\u201d<\/span><\/p> Hawes is set to appear in Crossfire, a BBC drama which is expected to air in the coming weeks. She stars as a former police officer who is on holiday with family and friends at a luxury resort when people with guns storm the complex.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m so excited to be embarking on this brilliantly compelling and propulsive drama,\u201d said Hawes when it was first announced.<\/span><\/p>\n Writer Louise <\/span>Doughty added: \u201cThis is a drama about a group of ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary event. In extremity, each character is faced with a set of dilemmas: and at the heart of it is Jo, who booked the holiday and unknowingly put her family and friends \u2013 and herself \u2013 at risk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, Succession fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of season 4.
