Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) has a \u2018darkness\u2019 that is about to be unleashed, says Coronation Street<\/a> producer Iain MacLeod.<\/p>\n

The character returned to the ITV soap<\/a> earlier this year during a tough time for mum Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls). But while Audrey thinks Stephen is perfect, she couldn\u2019t be more wrong<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other media, MacLeod has plenty to say about Stephen, who will be making an impact on not only Audrey\u2019s life but that of Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), too. And the key detail we are picking up here is: Stephen is going to be a sinister presence on the Street.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will continue to get more and more desperate and more and more dark as the story unfolds,<\/span>\u201d says MacLeod.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t know nearly enough about Stephen \u2013 but that\u2019s about to change. (ITV)<\/span><\/figcaption> ITV<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a bit of a blank canvas. If you think back through his archive scenes, we don\u2019t really know a lot about him. <\/span>So we thought, \u2018Well actually, if we\u2019re going to fill in those blanks, and we\u2019re going to learn more about him, shouldn\u2019t we make him dark, dangerous, interesting, scheming?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMischievous is probably too light a term; but certainly, M<\/span>achiavellian may be a stronger word.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The producer adds that he\u2019s seen Corrie\u2019s audience picking up on Stephen\u2019s behaviour, and it seems their predictions have been spot on!<\/p>

\u201cOur viewers are so canny as well,\u201d the producer continues. \u2018As soon as [Stephen] arrived everyone was like, \u2018Ah, I\u2019ve got him marked, he\u2019s gonna be a wrong\u2019un,\u2019 and they\u2019ll prove to be right in no small measure. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to see the audience\u2019s reaction to the unfolding story when they realise that he\u2019s every bit as desperate and dangerous as they predicted.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Full of praise for returning cast member Boyce, MacLeod concludes: \u201cTodd is such a brilliant cast member, I love his performance. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s so completely over the moon to be back in this role and back in the show, and is really embracing some of the more dark and dangerous elements of what we\u2019re asking him to do. It promises to be a really brilliant story for us, I think.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

At the moment, fans have only seen Stephen on a mission to raise cash in any underhand way he can, so just how much is he going to spiral? You\u2019ll just have to keep watching, as September promises to be a dramatic month<\/a> on the cobbles.<\/p>\n
