Various people involved in the production and the planned film adaptation are quizzed by coppers Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) as they try to get to the bottom of the case, before the culprit is eventually revealed in a brilliant denouement that Christie herself would surely have enjoyed.<\/p>\n
And the cast member who plays the killer has spoken to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about their inspirations for playing the villainous role, including what music they listened to in order to get in the right headspace for the part.<\/p>\n If you\u2019ve not seen the film yet, then beware \u2013 there are major spoilers<\/strong> for See How They Run from here on out, so only read on if you\u2019re happy with finding out the identity of the murderer.<\/p> If you\u2019re still reading, you\u2019ll know that the killer is revealed to be Dennis \u2013 the character played by This Country star Charlie Cooper<\/a> \u2013 with the theatre usher looking to get revenge after claiming his own personal story was being exploited for entertainment by Agatha Christie and the others involved with the production.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/strong>\u00a0in an exclusive interview, Cooper revealed that he hadn\u2019t been told prior to first reading the script that his character was going to be the murderer.<\/p>\n \u201cHe [director Tom George] didn\u2019t tell me,\u201d he said. \u201cSo by the time I got to the end, I was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s pretty cool.\u2019 It\u2019s just such a nice surprise, and something I always would have loved to have done.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if he looked to any particular movie villains for inspiration, Cooper explained: \u201cDo you know what, I don\u2019t think I did. I should have done \u2013 but I listened to a lot of villainous music!<\/p>\n \u201cHave you ever seen Basil, The Great Mouse Detective? It\u2019s brilliant. But there\u2019s a rat in it called Ratigan, and he\u2019s like the best Disney villain you\u2019ll ever see. He really inspired me.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Cooper says that he hopes fans don\u2019t guess that he\u2019s the real murderer too early into the runtime, claiming that he \u201calways gets annoyed with people who crack it immediately\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cMy girlfriend always does and I take ages to find out,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know, it\u2019s not until the end that I know who it is, I always fall for the red herrings.<\/p>\n \u201cYou want people to be at it until the very end, hopefully. It\u2019s so difficult [in] murder mysteries \u2013 it\u2019s so sort of mathematical in a way. It has to be so finely balanced because you just can\u2019t give it away too early, and if you\u2019re dissatisfied with the ending and who it is, you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, well, we didn\u2019t see them enough earlier, you could just make anyone the killer.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cSo, that balance is so, so crucial.
