Keeley Hawes\u2019s latest drama Crossfire<\/a> is set to land on BBC One tonight (20th September).<\/p>\n

The Bodyguard<\/a> actress plays Jo, a woman who goes on holiday with her family when what was meant to be an idyllic stay turns into a nightmare as gunmen open fire on the holidaymakers.<\/p>\n

When comparing the new series to Jed Mercurio\u2019s hit, in which she starred as ambitious Home Secretary Julia Montague, Hawes revealed the one difference about her character in Crossfire.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been asked, \u2018How does this differ from other action-based pieces that you\u2019ve done?\u2019 Well, it\u2019s the only one where I haven\u2019t been passive,\u201d she told RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo something like Bodyguard, it\u2019s an action thriller, but I wasn\u2019t part of that action. So that was very exciting [on Crossfire] and very telling about the way that things have been.\u201d<\/p>\n

Co-star Josette Simon added: \u201cUnusually, women are the drivers of this drama. None of them are passive, really, in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Writer and creator Louise Doughty agreed, and gave viewers a hint of the kind of relationships to expect between Hawes, Simon and co-star Anneika Rose\u2019s characters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe primary relationships are between the three women leads \u2013 yes, the husband and the kids appear [\u2026] but it\u2019s the three women who are at the heart of it,\u201d she explained.<\/p>
