Janice then stepped out with her phone in hand, (pretending to be) live-streaming everything. As it turned out, other female passengers had joined in too, and because of this police were waiting for him at the following station.<\/p>\n
At a screening of the new drama\u2019s first episode attended by RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press ahead of its release, Wells spoke about her role in the scene, saying it\u2019s \u201cas close as I\u2019m ever gonna get to playing a cowboy walking into a saloon\u201d.<\/p>\n She explained: \u201cThis is not a scene that I read often and know that I\u2019m going to be playing, so I knew it was really important. And also, when we actually shot it, it was really exciting. I was getting goose bumps when everyone was saying \u2018me too\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019ve got it, I\u2019ve got it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Wells noted that the scene was \u201cexciting\u201d but scary, and said that reading it she was thinking \u201cthis is as close as one gets to being really cool and brave and strong\u201d.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview<\/a> with RadioTimes.com<\/strong>, the show\u2019s creator Steven Moffat spoke about Janice\u2019s role in the drama, as it is set to play out following that shocking scene midway through when David Tennant\u2019s character Harry locks her in his cellar.<\/p>\n Moffat noted that Janice is not a \u201csaintly\u201d or \u201cvirtuous\u201d character, and that if he had portrayed her as such he would be falling into an old dramatic cliche.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cI think something that we all do as writers \u2013 I\u2019ve done it many times \u2013 is you somehow equate virtue with victimhood. There\u2019s nothing about being a victim that makes you virtuous. In fact, arguably the opposite. If you\u2019re being victimised, you\u2019re probably going to get worse, not better.\u201d<\/p> Moffat continued: \u201cThere\u2019s nothing saintly about having a boot in your face, right? You don\u2019t remove the boot with a grateful smile. You corner someone and they can turn pretty bloody feral. That\u2019s what humans are like \u2013 of course we\u2019re like it, how the hell would we not be like that?<\/p>\n \u201cJanice is a handful in that cellar \u2013 she promises she will not make it easy and, my God, it is not. You realise from the first scene that she\u2019s not somebody who\u2019s going to step aside.
