After 11 seasons and 12 years on screen, The Walking Dead<\/a> is set to conclude with a final run of eight episodes \u2013 though the universe will live on, with a number of new spin-offs planned<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All the same, wrapping up the flagship series was a major task for showrunner Angela Kang and her team \u2013 and Kang told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that there was \u201ca lot of debate and discussion\u201d around how the show should end.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe, as the showrunner, and my writing staff, we are responsible for trying to map out the story and come up with a pitch for it, but then \u2013 with any show, but especially a show like this \u2013 there\u2019s a lot of people that are gonna look at what you\u2019re doing,\u201d Kang explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we pitch it to the producers, we pitch it to the studio and the network. We talk to our actors about our plans and then we try to make our very best version of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The final note on which the series would end was debated right up until the last moment, Kang revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say without spoiling that our intended final scene is not the final scene anymore. I won\u2019t go into that now, so early in the process, but sometimes, even after you\u2019ve shot things, it changes in the post-production process. It\u2019s a living work, as we go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kang wouldn\u2019t be drawn, however, on whether the original final scene was removed entirely or shifted to earlier in the episode. \u201cIt\u2019s\u2026 I don\u2019t even know if I should say that much!\u201d she laughed. \u201cLet\u2019s just say that things changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
