BBC thriller Inside Man has seen the lives of four people become unexpectedly entangled by fate and a series of increasingly bad decisions.<\/p>\n

The four-parter wraps up tonight on BBC One, but have we seen the last of its characters? Series creator and writer Steven Moffat told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that while Inside Man<\/a> tells a \u201cself-contained story\u201d, he\u2019s leaving the door open for a potential follow-up.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe story will end in four episodes,\u201d Moffat said. \u201cIt\u2019s done by the end of that. As to whether or not you could ever spin off anything or do any kind of sequel? I don\u2019t know at this moment.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIt\u2019s not really up to me, and it\u2019s not up to the broadcasters \u2013 it\u2019s up the audience really, isn\u2019t it? <\/span>And if anyone wanted it, you have to sit down and think, \u2018Is there anything to do?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTelevision is littered with shows that had one season and pretended they could carry on \u2013 I would never want to be one of those, where you\u2019re so excited to get a phone call about doing another run that you do it and then realise, actually, the story is finished.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Though the plight of troubled vicar Harry Watling (David Tennant) is likely to be resolved in the Inside Man finale, it\u2019s easy to imagine a spin-off exploring the further investigations of \u201cdeath row detective\u201d Jefferson Grieff (Stanley Tucci), who solves mysteries from behind bars.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s possible, though, that Moffat might want to move on to a new original project \u2013 Inside Man is his first series not based on any source material since 2000\u2019s Coupling and the writer told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> that he had plenty of other ideas that were put to one side<\/a> while he was serving as showrunner on Doctor Who<\/a> and Sherlock from 2010 to 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a pile-up,\u201d he said. \u201cI occasionally find them written on scraps and think, \u2018Oh, I should do that!\u2019 \u2013it\u2019s one of the nice things about no longer doing Doctor Who and Sherlock all the time, which is what I did for seven to eight years.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time I had an idea, I had to stand on it unless it fitted into one of those shows. I just quashed it and threw it away, so it\u2019s nice now, you can just think, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s an idea, I might go and do that, I might sell that.’\u201d<\/p>\n
